Even with the actions announced by the university, unit level action is still necessary
U-M Deans and Institute Directors and Unit Leaders:
Retain an independent consultant to conduct an energy efficiency audit for the building
Form faculty, staff, and student committees to explore how the school/institute can reduce its energy usage
Set climate action goals for the school/institute, track progress closely, and hold people accountable
Provide all school/institute stakeholders (faculty, staff, and students) with climate action training toolkits and goals (such as those offered on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion)
Plan carbon neutrality education events within the school/institute to enable informed action, promote engagement, behavior change, and policy development
Set direction to integrate Carbon Neutrality/Climate Justice themes into core curriculum
U-M Faculty + Staff:
Collaborate on reducing plug loads (freezers, computers, etc.)
Get an energy efficiency audit of your work or lab space
Urge your Dean/Director/Unit Leaders to take action immediately
Consider augmenting course materials with how they link to the climate crisis and what can be done
Provide public comment at a Board of Regents meeting
U-M Students:
Join a student group pushing climate action
Write to the President and Board of Regents and urge them to act decisively
